An Invitation From Our President

Welcome to Club 2250 - University Toastmasters!

Our club has been meeting on Friday mornings since 1982 and we have plans on being here for a long time.  We attribute our club’s longevity and success to Toastmasters International along with our culture at Club 2250.

Toastmasters International has an established system that helps each member take their personal development to the next level. Communicating effectively is only one of the many benefits you will gain from becoming a member of Toastmasters.  Continuous improvement with public speaking is a great way to build confidence at Toastmasters.  Moreover, our club will specifically foster a fun, friendly environment to help you discover your individual voice along with your own unique style which leads to self confidence.

I would like to cordially invite you to our next meeting. Be our guest and discover why so many of our guests return as members.

Sincerely,

Theresa Rosenveldt

who?In October 1924 a small group lead by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.”  University Toastmasters are a local chapter of Toastmasters International meeting at the Drucker School in Claremont, California.

what?Today, Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. Toastmasters International includes more than 250,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in more than 106 countries.  Everywhere from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe!

why?Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your co-workers, your kids, or presenting to your customers, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, nurturing environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators.

how?At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking and working with others in a fun, supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club meets once a week for about an hour. Each meeting offers everyone an opportunity to practice: conduct meetings, give impromptu speeches, present prepared speeches, and receive constructive coaching.
